Tiffany Cain, CNA, spends her days behind the scenes. So in August, when all eyes were on her in the Lucy Corr Health Care Center’s Mast Auditorium — where she received the facility’s latest Ceca Award and a $250 check — her first instinct was to head for the exit.

“I actually went out the door because I just couldn’t believe that it was me,” said Tiffany, Lucy Corr’s staffing coordinator.

Through its participation in the national Ceca Award program, Lucy Corr honors clinical and non-clinical team members whose everyday work reflects the organization’s values of care, compassion and kindness. Tiffany was recognized for her dedication to residents and her willingness to step in and support colleagues across the community.

Tiffany, who marks five years at Lucy Corr this month, keeps nurses and certified nursing assistants scheduled across all shifts, handles timekeeping and builds schedules around team members who are also in school. No two days look the same, she said, but her priority is constant.

“My main focus is always making sure the facility is staffed so the residents can get the correct and proper care,” she said.

Her work isn’t exclusively performed at her desk. In her free time, Tiffany goes above and beyond, walking with residents, taking them outside and escorting them to and from activities.

Residents have noticed Tiffany’s dedication. They bring her concerns and compliments alike, including the occasional request to keep a favorite nurse assigned to their unit. “Everyone’s going to be an older adult one day, so I just always think, this is someone’s mother, grandmother,” she said.

A self-described people person, Tiffany counts relationships across every department — from environmental services to therapy to dietary — as the best part of the job. She was also quick to share the credit, singling out Kelly Butts, RN, assistant director of nursing, as her go-to for solving problems and lifting the team’s energy.

The congratulations that followed the Ceca Award announcement, she said, meant as much as the award itself: “It was just a good feeling to know that my coworkers think of me like this. I appreciate them wholeheartedly.”

“Tiffany makes sure our residents see a capable, caring face on every shift,” said Lucy Corr CEO Michael Cunningham. “That work frequently happens in the background, and she does it with remarkable heart.”

Tiffany is the third Lucy Corr team member to receive the Ceca Award, following Shakeama Burroughs, LPN, and Jeremy Armstrong. The Ceca Award program is part of the Ceca Foundation, a national organization that recognizes excellence in caregiving across health care communities.

Residents, families, team members and guests can nominate a Lucy Corr team member for a Ceca Award anytime. More information is available at the Ceca Foundation website and the Lucy Corr careers page.
