More than 100 runners, walkers and families turned out Saturday, June 27, for the Lucy Corr Foundation Family Fun Run/Walk, a morning of movement, music and community spirit on the Lucy Corr campus.
Participants chose between a 5K run/walk — four laps around the Lucy Corr grounds — and a 1-mile fun run/walk that welcomed all ages and abilities, from seasoned runners to residents accompanied in wheelchairs to families pushing strollers. Health Care Center Administrator Jenae Briggs served as the event’s starter and emcee, keeping the energy high and encouraging participants throughout the morning.
Twenty service members from Fort Lee in Prince George County volunteered to help make the event possible, from carrying equipment, greeting participants, supplying water stations and even lacing up running shoes to take part. One Fort Lee participant clocked the winning time for the 5K at 22 minutes and 48 seconds.
After the races, attendees enjoyed a bounce house, food truck and live music. All proceeds benefited the Lucy Corr Foundation. All told, the event raised $12,684 in support of programs and services for Lucy Corr residents and seniors across the region.
Director of Senior Living CaSandra Yarosz said the morning of fun and fitness reflected a re-energized commitment to bringing people together on campus after pandemic-era disruptions slowed community programming.
“We refuse to let anything stop us from being successful in this,” she said. “Come on out in the future and be a part of our community. We’re here to serve these residents, and we’ll take all the love we can get.”
The Lucy Corr Foundation is a nonprofit dedicated to enhancing the lives of Lucy Corr residents and seniors throughout Chester, Chesterfield, Petersburg, Richmond and surrounding areas.
