Lucy Corr has joined the Ceca Foundation, a Washington, D.C.-based, national organization dedicated to recognizing exceptional caregivers across health care communities. As part of its participation in the Ceca Award program, Lucy Corr has named Nurse Shakeama Burroughs, LPN, of the Health Care Center as its inaugural Ceca Caregiver Award recipient.
Founded in 2013, the Ceca Foundation honors caregivers whose compassion, professionalism and dedication elevate the experiences of residents and families. Through community nominations, the Ceca Award program highlights everyday acts of care that often go unseen, fostering a culture of gratitude and recognition within care organizations across the country.
“Joining the Ceca Foundation is a meaningful step for us, reflecting our commitment to celebrating the people who define quality care in this community,” said Michael Cunningham, CEO of Lucy Corr. “Recognizing caregivers like Shakeama reminds us that excellence in care is rooted in unconditional empathy and an extra-mile mindset.”
Burroughs received her award in February based on multiple nominations from colleagues, family members and care partners who described her as attentive and observant — and always willing to go out of her way to help patients and peers alike. Her proactive communication with families and servant-minded leadership of new Certified Nursing Assistants were also noted.
“She is by far one of the best nurses my mom has had in many years of medical care,” said one submission. In another, a colleague said Burroughs “always goes above and beyond for the unit — not just her assigned residents.”
In addition to Burroughs’ recognition, team member Bonnie Cheely received the Ceca Gratitude Award for thoughtfully nominating colleagues for the Caregiver Award. Lucy Corr will award both the Ceca Caregiver Award and the Ceca Gratitude Award on a quarterly basis.
“We’re looking forward to honoring more staff and continually reaffirming our commitment to honoring caregivers whose daily work reflects Lucy Corr’s longstanding values of care, compassion and kindness,” Cunningham said.
