On Sunday, December 21, around 6:40 p.m., a fire occurred in one of the dryers in Central Laundry. The fire was contained to a single dryer and did not spread further. Sprinklers activated appropriately, and the fire alarm system notified the Chesterfield County Fire Department. Nursing supervisors in the Health Care Center responded immediately when the alarm activated, and firefighters were dispatched and arrived on site shortly thereafter. There were no resident or staff injuries.

Central Laundry is located in an area of the campus that is separate from resident living areas and is housed in the older part of the Assisted Living building.

At this time, the cause of the fire has not been determined. Lucy Corr leadership is committed to diligently investigating the incident and can provide updates as more information becomes available. In the meantime, the community is working to select a laundry vendor. While a brief lapse in laundry service is expected, steps are being taken to minimize the impact on residents.

The incident has been reported to the appropriate regulatory agencies. As restoration work continues and laundry services are addressed, residents and visitors may notice additional activity on campus.

Lucy Corr thanks its staff and the Chesterfield County Fire Department for their swift and effective response.
