Residents gathered on February 18 for one of the monthly physical therapy information sessions held at Lucy Corr, where on-site physical therapist Jessica Livengood led a small-group conversation focused on fall recovery. With four residents in attendance, the informal session created space for specific questions and practical, personalized guidance.

Therapists from Lucy Corr’s Rehabilitation Clinic visit the Independent Living building on a rotating basis to address self-care topics and techniques. During her session, Livengood emphasized that while fall prevention is important, knowing what to do after a fall — and assessing one’s injuries before attempting to move — can make a critical difference.

“Stop, lay there, be still and think,” Livengood advised residents. “Don’t panic; just breathe.” She demonstrated how to safely roll, sit up and use sturdy furniture for support, always stressing the importance of calling for help and carrying a phone or alert device.

The session also touched on posture, assistive devices and the value of staying active to maintain strength and confidence. “That’s my number one fall tip,” Livengood said, reinforcing the idea that listening to one’s body and moving mindfully are essential parts of aging well.

These monthly therapy talks are just one example of how Lucy Corr’s clinical staff supports residents in education and independence, not just recovery. “Working here is fun, because I get to use different parts of my brain,” Livengood said.
