Joy Singers extend holiday spirit into new year

“Good morning, and merry Christmas!” said Joshua Wortham, music director and organist of Chester United Methodist Church, to a small crowd of Lucy Corr residents gathered in the Bistro of the Independent Living building. Laughter greeted him — because, of course, it was January 20, and Christmas was almost a month behind. Many consider Martin Luther King, Jr. Day a “Day On, Not a Day Off,” using the break from work or school to serve their communities. Midlothian’s Girl Scout Troop 5757 is no exception. Seven performers in their late 70s to early 90s took to the floor, each introduced in lively, pro- ballroom-esque fashion. Months of practice and community-building led to the inaugural showcase, which had attendees smiling and clapping — and, [...]

Update on Central Laundry Dryer Fire

On Sunday, December 21, around 6:40 p.m., a fire occurred in one of the dryers in Central Laundry. The fire was contained to a single dryer and did not spread further. Sprinklers activated appropriately, and the fire alarm system notified the Chesterfield County Fire Department. Nursing supervisors in the Health Care Center responded immediately when the alarm activated, and firefighters were dispatched and arrived on site shortly thereafter. There were no [...]
